The return to the in-person red carpet and early Aughts nostalgia proved to be influential in determining the top trending celebrity style stars this year.
Google’s Year in Search data showed the 10 celebrities with the top trending style of 2021. Perhaps surprisingly, the top ranking went to actor Adam Sandler, who has become a style star in his own right this year thanks to Gen Z’s inclination toward fashion trends of the early 2000s.
Sandler’s style has resonated with the masses for its casual nature. The actor has become known for wearing baggy clothes in styles like polo shirts, oversize T-shirts, basketball shorts, loose-fitting jeans and sneakers.

Also in the vein of nostalgia, Google’s second top trending celebrity style star of 2021 is Britney Spears, whose been top of mind in the cultural lexicon this year due to her conservatorship battle against her father, Jamie Spears, which recently came to an end in her favor. Spears’ style was heavily influential on the year’s most popular Halloween costumes, which took inspiration from many of her iconic music videos and awards show looks from the early Aughts.

According to a report by Yelp that looks at beauty search trends by users in the last year, up-and-coming treatments such as lip blushing and the curtain bangs hairstyle are looking to be some of the most popular trends for the coming year.
As with recent years, lip treatments continue to be popular, but instead of the typical lip filler, search interest in treatments such as the lip flip and lip blushing have increased to 107 percent and 130 percent, respectively.
The lip flip, reportedly popularized by users on TikTok, is a treatment in which Botox is used on the upper part of your top lip, causing the muscle to relax and flip outward, giving the appearance of more natural, fuller-looking lips.
Lip blushing, on the other hand, is a form of semipermanent makeup. It is a cosmetic tattoo for the lips to help enhance its natural color and definition.
Surprisingly, the mullet, a signature ‘70s hairstyle, is making a retro comeback, with Yelp searches for “mullet” up by 73 percent. Celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, among many others, have turned to this hairstyle in the last year or so, with
Nicole Kidman has brought her signature style to the red carpet once more.
For the premiere of “Being the Ricardos,” the actress wore a strapless taupe tulle ballgown by Armani Privé featuring a sweetheart neckline embellished with crystals and ruffle detailing. She wore heels by Jimmy Choo and a watch by Omega, for which she has been a longtime ambassador.
Kidman wore her hair in a messy updo and her makeup was simple, finished with a bold red lip. She was styled by Julia von Boehm, who has also worked with the likes of Haley Bennett and Sigourney Weaver.

The upcoming biographical drama, which also stars Javier Bardem, tells the story of the relationship between famed Hollywood couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, both of whom starred in the popular sitcom “I Love Lucy.” The film was directed by Aaron Sorkin.
Kidman and Bardem play Ball and Arnaz, respectively. Starring alongside them are J.K. Simmons, Nina Arianda, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, Jake Lacy and Clark Gregg.

The 2021 holiday shopping season is going strong, with consumers increasingly looking to do their shopping in the beauty category.
According to market research company The NPD Group, more than a quarter of consumers are planning on purchasing within the beauty category for the holiday season. The category as a whole is poised for double-digit revenue growth by the end of the year.
Within the beauty category, consumers have been gravitating toward purchasing hair tools and heritage fragrances for their holiday gifts, according to Google data that monitored the top trending 2021 holiday gift ideas within the category.
Within hair tools, the top trending holiday gift ideas include the Beachwaver Pro 1 curling wand, Dyson’s Airwrap, the Conair Infiniti Pro Curl Secret and the BabylissPro Nano Titanium Prima.
This is in line with NPD’s prediction that the hair category will have one of the strongest holidays to date, with revenue in the category expected to outpace fragrance, which is historically the top-revenue earning category within beauty.
Fragrance, however, is still expected to be a top gift idea this season with 40 percent of annual fragrance sales happening during the fourth quarter, according to NPD. Google’s data shows that heritage fragrances are reigning supreme among consumers,
Pete Davidson is back on Instagram.
The “Saturday Night Live” comedian appears to have taken over the Calvin Klein Instagram as of Monday, with the brand’s account changing its main photo to one of Davidson wearing a Calvin Klein baseball cap and its bio to “Pete here.”
The account then posted a mirror selfie of Davidson wearing a Calvin Klein T-shirt with the caption “I got Instagram.” On the post, musician Machine Gun Kelly, who is close friends with Davidson, wrote the comment: “are you gonna post us in our undies.”

Machine Gun Kelly later joined Davidson for an Instagram Live on Calvin Klein’s account later in the evening, where they jokingly put on a risqué photoshoot of themselves in their Calvin Klein briefs while sitting on a white couch. This included Machine Gun Kelly pouring a bowl of popcorn over Davidson as he kneeled on the couch.
It is unclear if Davidson’s Instagram takeover is part of an upcoming campaign or ambassadorship with Calvin Klein. Representatives from the brand declined to share further details about Davidson’s involvement with the brand at press time.
