Design Theory: How George Trochopoulos’ Stripe Motif Became a Go-to Celebrity Style

Despite minimal prior design experience and just a few years of fashion school under his belt, George Trochopoulos has become a go-to designer for some of today’s biggest stars.
The 20-year-old London-based designer didn’t initially intend on a career as a fashion designer, having first thought about law or software engineering. It was when he was looking for a safe space and a community that he ended up pursuing fashion design.
“I was always very creative and very playful, whether that stems from my queerness or that’s something else, I’m not sure,” he explained. “[Fashion designer] was never seen by me or anyone in my life as a job position, but basically I started doing that and playing around. It was the only way in which I saw myself succeeding in a space that I could be myself. It was the only thing that felt right and a step toward the right place. It was never really about the clothes themselves or my fascination with dresses, but it was more about the fact that at the time I really needed a community and the support, which was only given by fashion.”
Trochopoulos attends the London College of Fashion where he is in the

As Fashion and TV Get Closer, Coco de Mer Partners With ‘Killing Eve’

LONDON — Are TV series stars the new influencers?
As the power of the picture-perfect Instagram influencer is being questioned, fictional characters from hit TV and Netflix series — ranging from “Bridgerton” to “Gossip Girl” and “Squid Game” — are reemerging as the ultimate trend setters.
According to recent data by Lyst, the ’80s styling choices of the “Sex Education” cast or creative personalities like poet Kai-Isaiah-Jamal are starting to drive trends and move product much quicker than the Instagram set.
“Fashion lovers don’t need to look at some Instagram influencers anymore, they prefer to layer different styles, and mix influences from digital-born trends, Netflix, musicians or video games,” said Brenda Otero, Lyst’s cultural insights manager.
So, fashion brands are looking to grasp the momentum — and capitalize on the opportunity.
Coco de Mer is the latest to strike a deal with a blockbuster TV show. The British lingerie brand is readying the launch of a capsule with BBC America’s “Killing Eve,” set to launch on Dec. 6 on the label’s website and on Net-a-porter.
It’s following on the footsteps of the likes of Malone Souliers, which recently announced a “Bridgerton” shoe collaboration; Balmain which released a capsule for Netflix’s “The Harder They Fall” movie, and Halston’s archival

Bella Hadid Joins Victoria’s Secret’s VS Collective

Bella Hadid is returning to Victoria’s Secret.
The model revealed today that she is joining the company’s VS Collective, Victoria’s Secret’s initiative that brings together a diverse group of women for collaborations, partnerships and campaigns.
Hadid was previously a Victoria’s Secret Angel, walking in the company’s fashion shows from 2016 to 2018. However, in 2020, she cut ties with the company after joining more than 100 others in accusing former L Brands chief marketing officer, Ed Razek, of inappropriate behavior. Razek has since stepped down from the company.
The model spoke about her decision to return to Victoria’s Secret in an interview with Marie Claire, stating: “It has been a few years since I’ve done anything with Victoria’s Secret. What magnetized me to coming back was them coming to me and really proving to me that, behind the scenes, Victoria’s Secret has changed so drastically.…There was a type of way that, I think, a lot of us women who used to work with Victoria’s Secret felt. And now, six of the seven [VS] board members are all female. And there’s new photo shoot protocols that we have. So a lot has changed. I feel like the world really deserves a brand like Victoria’s

Blackpink’s Lisa Fronting the Celine Haute Parfumerie Collection

FACE FORWARD: Blackpink’s Lalisa Manobal — the Thai music sensation known simply as Lisa to the girl band’s legion of fans — has a new gig: as the global brand ambassador for the Celine Haute Parfumerie collection.
Lisa is known to have worked closely with the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned house’s creative director Hedi Slimane since 2019, and she became Celine’s global ambassador in September 2020.
The rapper’s other fashion forays include a limited-edition collection inspired by her debut album, “Lalisa,” which was released this past September. She also served as a juror for the 2021 Andam awards this summer.
Lisa now features in a Celine Haute Parfumerie campaign, which is lensed by Slimane. The black-and-white shot, posted on Celine’s Instagram page on Thursday, shows her stretched gracefully along a metallic, very Parisian, staircase banister.
The high perfumery collection, which was launched in 2019 with 11 fragrances, draws on the designer’s androgynous perspective, with the scents being for both men and women. They carry touches of tree moss, iris, rose or chypre notes. In line with the designer’s penchant for full command, they are also meant to reflect Slimane’s personal history.
