Chanel Responds to TikTok Controversy Over Advent Calendar

PARIS — Chanel has responded to online controversy about its advent calendar after being mocked by influencers over the contents of the limited-edition box, resulting in a flood of negative comments on social media in the run-up to its annual Métiers d’Art runway show, due to take place on Tuesday.
Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion and president of Chanel SAS, said the French luxury house produced the calendar as part of this year’s celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Chanel No.5 perfume, and it did not expect the negative feedback.
“This controversy is a bit of a shame because it was not what Chanel intended. Chanel thought it would please some of its customers by offering this type of product. Evidently, we see that you have to be careful and therefore, in future, we will certainly be much more cautious,” Pavlovsky told WWD on Monday.
Asked whether this was the first time that Chanel produced an advent calendar, the executive said: “No, I don’t think so, but it wasn’t necessarily for sale.” He added that the 2021 calendar was produced in a very limited run, which was totally sold out.
A spokesman confirmed it was the first time Chanel had offered a calendar for

Searches for Gucci Products Rise After ‘House of Gucci’ Release

The hype around “House of Gucci” is trickling over to shopping.
The Ridley Scott-directed film, which depicts a dramatization of the Gucci family, has caused a spike in searches related to the fashion house and its iconic items. According to data from ShopStyle, a digital shopping platform, searches for “Gucci” have increased 31 percent on the platform since the film’s release over Thanksgiving weekend.
The shopping platform has also seen large increases in searches for some of Gucci’s well-known pieces and styles, such as “Gucci Belt” (up 73 percent), “Gucci Handbags” (up 67 percent) and “Gucci Loafers” (up 50 percent).
ShopStyle also saw a spike in searches related to the costumes in “House of Gucci,” such as for “pinstripe suits,” which increased by 67 percent. The search relates to the many pinstripe suits worn by actors Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jared Leto and others in the film as they took on their roles as members of the Gucci family. The actors’ suits were not Gucci, but custom designed by Ermenegildo Zegna.
Other searches related to the film’s costumes include “Polka Dot Dress” — up 25 percent — which references a brown and white polka dot dress worn by Lady Gaga in the film when

Moore From L.A.: Is ‘House of Gucci’ Any Good?

The moment Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani crosses her heart and swears to “Father, son and House of Gucci,” director Ridley Scott struck a kind of Hollywood gold.
Just from the film trailers alone, the line of dialogue has already entered the pop culture pantheon of camp — like in “Valley of the Dolls”: “I have to get up at five o’clock in the morning and sparkle, Neely, sparkle!” Or from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”: “Dammit, Janet, I love you.”
There are bootleg T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase for sale on the internet and “House of Gucci” doesn’t even open in theaters until Wednesday.
Media reviews of the film were embargoed until today, but reactions on social media have been mixed. Some people who have seen advance screenings have called it an amusing satire. And Scott has said that’s what he was going for — satire. Other viewers have deemed it overstuffed and unfocused, while a few have praised it as a masterpiece, sparking early buzz for Gaga and Driver in the Oscars race.
Jared Leto stars as Paolo Gucci in Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci.”
To me, it was a telenovela but not quite enough of one, with the actors committing to satire

Lady Gaga, Jared Leto Dazzle at ‘House of Gucci’ Los Angeles Premiere

The “House of Gucci” cast has touched down in Los Angeles.
Lady Gaga and Jared Leto led the way on the red carpet of the film’s premiere Thursday evening, as they both stunned in creations by Italian fashion houses.
The singer-actress wore a sequin-embellished, strapless gold gown from Valentino’s summer 2021 collection. She traded in her long hair and opted for a pixie cut and bold eye makeup look topped with a red lip. Her jewelry was by Messika and she was styled by Sandra Amador and Tom Eerebout.
Leto continued his hot streak of wearing Gucci creations. The Oscar award-winning actor wore a pink satin tuxedo from the label’s spring 2022 collection that debuted during its Love Parade on Hollywood Boulevard earlier this month with white booties and black lace and jewel-embellished gloves.
Their costars Adam Driver, Al Pacino and Mădălina Ghenea and the movie’s director Ridley Scott and his wife Giannina Facio also attended the premiere.
Driver wore a simple black suit while Pacino donned a more casual all-black red carpet ensemble. Ghenea wore a black one-shouldered draped gown that featured a thigh-high slit.
In the movie Lady Gaga, Leto, Driver, Pacino, Ghenea, Jeremy Irons and Salma Hayek play Patrizia Reggiani, Paolo Gucci, Maurizio

A Closer Look at Jared Leto’s Outfit at the ‘House of Gucci’ NYC Premiere

Make way for Jared Leto.
The award-winning actor arrived on the red carpet of the “House of Gucci” premiere in New York City on Tuesday, wowing crowds in a look by none other than Gucci itself. Leto wore a mustard, velour suit and a sequin-embellished draped turtleneck top from the Italian label’s fall 2021 ready-to-wear collection. He topped off the look by wearing gold platform boots and a white fur coat.
Leto’s costars Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons, among others, all joined him on the red carpet for the premiere.
The outfit marks one of many Gucci ensembles Leto has worn in the last few weeks.
