D.L. Eyewear — “Schitt’s Creek” actor and writer Dan Levy’s line of optical glasses and shades — has tapped Elena Doukas as co-creative director and president, WWD has learned exclusively.
“Elena has been a force in the eyewear space for over a decade,” Levy, the brand’s founder, told WWD in a statement. “I’ve long admired her eye, her instincts and her ability to pave a unique creative path through a highly competitive industry. D.L. Eyewear is lucky to have her and we look forward to the exciting new heights we’ll reach with her by our side.”
Doukas was formerly the design director at Garrett Leight California Optical for 11 years (which recently sold a majority stake, with a $20 million investment, as reported by WWD).
For her part, Doukas said: “It goes without saying that Dan is an amazing storyteller, and he has such a unique vision for D.L. Eyewear. I’ve been so impressed with the fact that he’s maintained that, along with the brand’s ethos, ever since he started the company almost 10 years ago. The system of the fashion industry today makes it easy for a brand to be taken over by a plug and play mentality, and I’ve been so

Ones to Watch: Antoine Manning

Antoine Manning, the Atlanta-based accessory designer, is creating pieces that contribute to conversations happening in the world and also look good.
After a fashion internship where Manning gleaned insight into how the industry works, he felt ready to move forward with his own brand. Amidst the pandemic, Manning felt inspired to create something new and sketched out his first bag.
Made from vegan leather, each bag and colorway has a meaning behind it: the green mini bag, which retails for $150, represents tranquility; the orange mini bag, also priced at $150, is meant to evoke vitality, and the lavender classic bag, retailing for $275, is intended to represent abundance.
The bags will be available for purchase on Sept. 24 via the Black Fashion Fair, an online platform that highlights a variety of Black-owned brands. “Twenty percent of the sales go back to helping our communities, something that brings together Black brands and different brands and entities, a powerful statement of what we can do when we stick together,” the designer said.

Netflix Reveals First Look at Britney Spears Documentary

Netflix’s “Britney vs Spears” is almost here.
On Wednesday, the streaming service revealed the poster and first official trailer of its highly anticipated documentary detailing Britney Spears’ life and her very publicized conservatorship, a legal arrangement in which she has no control over her own estate or other aspects of her life, in which she has been involuntary placed since 2008. A court grants a conservatorship for individuals who are unable to make a decision for themselves due to physical or mental limitations. The documentary will debut on the streaming service on Sept. 28.
The poster shows a detailed painting of the pop star as she holds her neck, as if it seems like she’s strangling herself. “No more secrets. No more silence,” the caption on Twitter read.

The president tapped the seven-member group, which consists of RM, Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, Suga, J-Hope and V, to be the U.N.’s Special Presidential Envoys for Future Generations and Culture for the Republic of Korea and help encourage people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Amanda Gorman has made her Met Gala debut.
The national youth poet laureate, who is co-chairing the 2021 Met Gala, arrived on the red carpet wearing a custom Vera Wang dress that references the Statue of Liberty. The cobalt blue look was designed as a mini dress with a tulle train and Swarovski crystals. Gorman’s look was styled by Jason Bolden.
“I wanted the energy and the spirit of my outfit to be about America welcoming the world,” Gorman said about the look on the Met Gala red carpet.
Gorman accessorized the red carpet with a clutch designed to look like a book that reads the phrase, “Give Us Your Tired,” which references the poem that’s etched on the Statue of Liberty.
