Virgil Abloh, in One of His Last Interviews, Talked About Miami Show

In one of his last interviews, Virgil Abloh, men’s artistic director of Louis Vuitton, spoke about reprising his show in Miami and what the city meant to him. Louis Vuitton shared the contents of the interview exclusively with WWD.
Why are you doing a spring-summer 2022 spin-off show?
Virgil Abloh: More than a spin-off, this show is part of the collection arc that continues to shape and evolve the Louis Vuitton men’s realm. The pandemic pushed us to adapt our storytelling through new formats, from films to destination shows. This collection is an ongoing tale originally told through film, on which we’re now elaborating on a runway. We’re not simply adding more looks, but creating a physical frame, which both reiterates and cultivates the overall context that began with collection one three years ago.
How would you describe the show?
The collection is founded in a desire to erase the unconscious biases connected with certain dress codes based on the way society programs us to think growing up. We’re framing that premise in symbolism native to the idea of boyhood, an ideology that continues to be part of the Louis Vuitton men’s practice. Recurring elements like paper planes and hot air balloons pertain to

Kim Kardashian West Pens Emotional Tribute for Virgil Abloh

Shortly after the death of Virgil Abloh, his longtime friend Kim Kardashian West penned an emotional tribute on social media.
On Monday evening, Kardashian West wrote a long post on her official Instagram page about the death of Abloh, who died on Sunday at the age of 41 after a long, private battle with cancer.
“God doesn’t make mistakes. I know that but I still can’t help but ask why. Why Virgil?! Why him so soon?” she wrote. “It’s simply hard to understand why. I have a hard time understanding why so many pure souls were taken away so early. Virgil — you were always so gentle, kind and calm. You somehow made time for everyone.”
“We also talked about your superpower of calmness often. You always gave so much of yourself to the world because you wanted it to be doper. This one is hard to process. I can’t even believe I am writing this… We will miss you so much Virgil and love you so much,” the post continued. “Also I would love to send so much love to his wife Shannon. Because you loved and supported Virgil the way that you did, he was able to give so much of

The actor revealed a Cleopatra-themed custom look by The Blonds: a head-to-toe gold-sequined jumpsuit complete with a matching cape. Upon disembarking from said litter, Porter spread out his cape, revealing it doubled as wings.

Maria Sharapova Wears Couture Dress Made From Water Bottles at 2021 Fashion Awards

Maria Sharapova combined high fashion and sustainability at the Fashion Awards.
The tennis champion attended the annual awards ceremony on Monday night in London wearing a custom dress created in a collaboration between Iris van Herpen and Evian. The sustainable dress, named the “Mimesis,” is designed with fabric made from recycled Evian bottles and organic silk and features the three-dimensional look that van Herpen is known for. Sharapova is a global brand ambassador for Evian.
“Collaborating with Evian on this project has been a great experience, particularly as we have shared sustainability goals and desire to reduce our impact on the planet,” van Herpen said in a statement. “Designing a couture dress with a fabric created from Evian bottles has enabled us to join forces and create a stunning garment that aims to inspire and encourage plastic recycling. I hope this dress will shape people’s perception of upcycling and recycling plastic by reinforcing the different forms the product life cycle can take, highlighting that we all have the power to change our future for the better.”

EXCLUSIVE: Ilene Joy Taps Stylist Elizabeth Sulcer for Second Fine Jewelry Collection

Ilene Joy is teaming with Elizabeth Sulcer for her next collection.
The fine jeweler and celebrity stylist, respectively, are collaborating on a holiday fine jewelry collection, which is the second collection to come from Joy’s namesake brand since it launched in 2019. The collection includes 16 pieces across earrings and rings.
“I have a very specific kind of vibe that I like and Elizabeth is just so ridiculously spot on,” Joy said about the collaboration. “She’s got the edge, the elegance and the bold authoritative nuance of what my brand stands for.”
This thought was echoed by Joy’s daughter and business partner, Rae Scheer, who stated: “We wanted to work with someone who was on the pulse. We wanted to marry this fashion element with fine jewelry and we really just wanted to work with someone who identifies with our style, but was also on the pulse of the new trends.”
To create the collection, Sulcer and Joy spoke at length about their jewelry preferences and sources of inspiration, such as architectural lines and natural elements. Both women discovered their mutual fondness for signet rings — Joy has long wanted to create a collection inspired by her grandfather’s signet ring — and chose to

Virgil Abloh’s Most Memorable Quotes

The sudden news that designer Virgil Abloh died at the age of 41 shocked the world, with many taking to social media to share tributes, memories and anecdotes. The founder of Off-White and creative director of men’s at Louis Vuitton passed away after a private two-year battle with cancer. He was widely considered to have single-handedly changed the industry and opened doors for an entire generation of artists within fashion, art and music.
WWD’s Paris Bureau Chief Joelle Diderich said: “The first time I met Virgil Abloh, I walked away after a 45-minute conversation completely sold on his vision. He was the kind of guy who had a theory about everything. Over the course of almost 8 years, we had many further long conversations on topics from design to inclusivity, but mainly he talked about changing the system.”
WWD’s Milan Fashion Editor Alessandra Turra recalled the long conversation she had with Abloh in June 2017, about his show at Pitti Uomo, when he discussed his own take on the concept of temperature.

“It’s a metaphor within my vocabulary system to sort of describe a moment of something that’s already existing. Take the weather, for example — if it’s cold or hot outside,

EXCLUSIVE: Juicy Couture and Emi Jay Team on 2000s-inspired Collection

Juicy Couture and Emi Jay are teaming up to create a hair accessories collection for the holidays that blends both brands’ early Aughts aesthetics.
The fashion label and hair accessories brand, respectively, are partnering on a collaboration for the holiday season. The 10-piece hair accessories collection is infused with early Aughts nostalgia, which are hallmarks of both companies.
“In the last year, we’ve really just as a whole embodied a lot of early 2000s trends,” explained Emi Jay founder Julianne Goldmark. “A lot of girls were gravitating toward color coming out of quarantine, funkier hairstyles and brighter and bolder pieces. With a lot of our campaign imagery over the last year, we did pull a lot of early 2000s inspiration and Juicy [Couture] kind of picks up on that. They felt like OG Juicy [Couture] was so true to current day Emi Jay. We felt there was such a tie between the two brands.”
To design the collection, Emi Jay looked to early 2000s romantic comedies and “It” girls of that era, such as Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Hilary Duff. The brand also looked at archival pieces and campaigns from Juicy Couture to reference the fashion brand’s heritage.
